Book Review: “The Charge” by John Miller
If we went for a coffee today, maybe we could talk about this little booklet…
How did I get this book?
Every February, we try to make it for the South East Calvary Chapel Pastor’s Conference at Calvary Chapel Merritt Island. It’s a great time for our whole family, as they run a kids program concurrent with the conference. Who can say “no” to that kind of setup, every February, in Florida?
At this years conference, one of the guest speakers was Pastor John Miller of “Revival Christian Fellowship in Murrieta, California. He had written this little booklet and they distributed a copy of it to every conference attendee.
What is it about?
It appears to be the sermon manuscript, or at least adapted from a sermon on 2 Timothy 4:1-8 aimed at fellow pastors.
It’s divided up into 11 sections. You couldn’t say chapters because they aren’t labelled that way, and it’s a booklet.
Each section is the next group of thoughts and ideas as you move through the passage. Pastor John is slowly and skillfully taking the reader through Paul’s charge to Timothy showing how it must be considered for today.
What did I think?
It must have been a stirring message if and when it was given live. It also is clearly a passion project for Pastor John. He wants to faithfully hand the baton off to the next generation of pastors, preachers and evangelists. His heart is in these pages.
Any reader of my book reviews would know that I have a special place in my heart for publications like this. I like to read things from pastors who have taken the time to write and like this case, publish and distribute themselves. Their heart is seen.
Pastor John’s seems altruistic. God has blessed his ministry and he wants to convey the love and reverence he has for God and His Word and the ministry to others.
Conclusion:
“Preach the Word!”
Even if it means taking time to write, publish and distribute!
