Let’s Try Something…

Hello everyone,

When I moved my blog here to Substack.com, I had a pastor friend in Canada subscribe and offer to purchase a “paid subscription” for $7/month That’s a thing here on Substack.com, some people make a living doing that. I turned my friend down. I wasn’t ready for that kind of arrangement. I just gave him a paid subscription.

Gen has been encouraging me for months to figure out a way to be compensated for the book reviews that I’ve done. She’s so encouraging! But, I wasn’t ready for that, so, hadn’t done anything about it.

Then, I read “How To Get Paid for What You Know” by Graham Cochrane and it got my wheels turning. But, I still wasn’t ready to do anything.

A couple of months ago, my friend Rob found me here and signed up for a paid subscription. He’s a CEO, so, I don’t mind taking his $7/month. I think he was looking for a way to encourage me. Rob, if you’re reading this, thank you!

A couple weeks later, I had a new thought. What if I just released my posts to the “paid subscribers,” and then a week later opened it up for everyone? It would reward my friend Rob and anyone else who wanted to send me $7/month. It would get me started down the road that Gen’s encouraging me to pursue. And, my conscience wouldn’t be stricken thinking that I’m doing something that wouldn’t please the Lord because everything would be available a week later. My posts usually aren’t time sensitive anyway.

There’s four more reviews lined up… “Robert Murray M’Cheyne” by Andrew Bonar, “Wealth Without Cash” by Pace Morby, “God and Money” by John Corrines and Gregory Baumer, and “The Return of the Gods” by Jonathan Cahn.

So, let’s try it. What do you think?
